Candle Refill Kit
Candles have a unique way of making a home feel warm and inviting, effortlessly transforming any space into a sanctuary of comfort. In the shop here at Root House, we carry the most beautiful candles with rustic vessels made of tree bark and some made of driftwood. Lighting them is a ritual of sorts, and when they run out, refilling them takes the experience to another level. Himalayan Trading Post has made the whole process very user friendly with their easy to use candle refill kit. After testing this kit, we can confidently say, candle making doesn’t have to be daunting. You, too, can be a “chandler”, or maker of candles. Right now, we only carry the refill kits in store, yet soon, they will be available online from us as well.
Ingredients
1 Himalayan Candle Kit
Glass Measuring Container
Vintage bowl, a wooden vessel, or a glass jar.
Hot Glue Gun
Instructions
01. Use a butter knife to scrape out any leftover wax and remove the old wick. For easier removal, place the container in the freezer for a few hours.
02. Use hot glue to secure the wick(s) to the bottom of the container. Make sure they are spaced evenly. If you're using a wooden vessel, attach the wick using the original melt base insert.
03. Heat the wax cubes in a glass measuring cup in the microwave for 60-second increments, or use a stovetop pot on low heat. Stir often until fully melted.
04. Once melted, allow the wax to cool slightly before pouring it into your container. Leave a small gap at the top (about 1/2 inch).
05. Let the wax harden for 2 hours, then gently straighten the wick. Allow the candle to set for 24 hours. Afterward, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch.
Safety Tip: Always follow candle safety guidelines—never leave a burning candle unattended, burn on a level surface, and keep candles away from children and pets.
For this batch, we used an empty 24 oz tree bark candle. From the 24 oz candle, we melted down 6 cubes of wax and had 2 wax blocks remaining. These 2 leftover blocks were then used to fill an 8 oz small candle, making efficient use of all the wax.
